On the Raptor machine, we find that when using larger components with the larger feeders (CL-16 and CL-24 in particular), the tape will become out of sequence with the feeder when using more than 1 head for placement. That is, the tape only gets advanced half a component pitch worth.
We have ensured the pull delay is sufficiently long enough for the pneumatic to reveal the component. We've spent a lot of time ensuring the air supply pressure is correct as outlined here: CL feeder feed problems caused by low air pressure supply
After observing the feeders during placement with multiple heads, we noticed this appears to happen when the feeder pushes the reel forward after picking up a component. When using multiple heads, the feeder will then very quickly activate the pneumatic again for the next component pickup, but the tape/reel did not have enough time to advance the entire pitch length.
Here is an example with a very long Pick Delay and Feed Time without an actual reel installed showing this rapid pneumatic actuation after a component is picked up: https://photos.app.goo.gl/EmtjeNSRE9fjDtNB7
We do not observe this issue when only using one head/nozzle, so we believe the tape/reel with the larger and heavier components does not have enough time to advance forward before the pneumatic is activated again. Unless you have any more hardware change recommendations, we suggest adding in a configurable delay in the software between when the pneumatic is released pushing the tape forward, and before the pneumatic is activated again to reveal another component for picking up with the next head/nozzle.
This is not the same as the Pick delay or Feed time.
For us, this issue either risks losing a large amount of components each time the tape jams or becomes out of sequence, or greatly reduces our throughput as we can only safety use one head for placement on our boards with a large quantity of the same large component.
These feeders need 1000ms feed time to forward the parts correctly. THis does not mean to increase the pick up delay! Please check Feed time (delay) for different CL Feeders in Feeder FAQ too https://www.smallsmt.biz/home/know-how/faq-feeder-settings/
The tape winder adjustment cause problems too if not well setup.
