I'm Nicolas Leday from DotVision (France). We bought a VP2500-DP a few weeks ago and we are very happy with the machine, we even managed to get TQFP144 (0.4mm pitch) reliably placed once correctly tuned.
We have some troubles getting correct camera alignment on a BGA component with a Pin1 mark on the bottom (48-TFBGA 6x8). Vision Placer software detect this mark as a pin which leads to miscalculation of position and angle adjustment.
I tried adjusting part size so that only balls gets detected but without success (distance between balls and mark is too tight).
We need to get this part reliably placed as soon as possible as we must make a batch of 240 pieces next week.
I saw that V3 software should solve this issue, but we need to get this working as soon as possible and can't afford to wait a few weeks.
Hi Nicolas. try to change the brightness setting to receive only a white body. Alignment will then only adjust on component outline. You need to try different contrast and brightness settings to improve.
Yes new V3 software is able to suppress the useless mark on the bottom.
Unfortunately, I tried this solution already (forgot to mention it). Problem with this solution is that this part is too dark, everything around get white before the part does, as shown: BGA_6x8_1.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
I will try using some black material around the head to see if I can eliminate this problem.
Only "solution" I came with so far, is to do a fine setup of the viewing area but it is not reliable and lead to a lot of bad positioning due to part misalignment into the tape: BGA_6x8_2.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
Sometimes mark still get into the viewing area, or a row of balls get outside the area, which leads to huge alignement errors.
Here is a picture of the wrongly detected mark for future reference: BGA_6x8_3.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
I am really sorry but Li told me we can't solve this problem now for V2 software because they don't use pin detection for adjustment. Maybe it's possible to use a precision tray to receive a better pickup position and don't use the whole part area for alignment maybe only 4x4 balls. So the vision correction don't need to shift the part too much.
I manager to get a "working" solution using some black material (black foam I had in the workshop) around the head to get a better contrast. It seems to work with a finely tuned contrast setup to get the full part body detected, but this is still very sensitive to ambiant light variation and need frequent tuning.
Do you have a release date for the V3 software yet? It seems to bring a lot of new features and we really would like to give it a try as soon as possible.
The chip is green, with red film you reduce green intensity. If red film work, use blue background disk on nozzle body to make deep black background aera.

I am sorry we need more than 4 weeks until we release the V3 software to Beta tester using V1 / V2 controller based machines. For the V3 software we charge 500€ upgrade price!
